Getting Started
What is Online Hogwarts World? Online Hogwarts World, commonly known as OHW, is an AU Harry Potter role playing site set generations after the Epilogue in Deathly Hallows.
What year does the RP take place? OHW takes place no less than a full generation after the Harry Potter books. There isn't a set date, so we'll give you an average of 2018-2028.
Wait, so where did Harry go? We don't know. This isn't a RolePlay Site based on the stories, it's based on the Hogwarts School after Harry is long gone.
How can I join Online Hogwarts World? You can join Online Hogwarts World by going to the menu near the top of the site and clicking on Register. Said button should link you to this page, where all you have to do is fill in the short form. Once you hit 'Create Account,' you should have your very own account here on the site.
Who are the staff members on the site? You can find the admin staff by their color. Deputy Heads have their names displayed in purple, and the Headmistress' have their names displayed in white. Though because new members are white, too, Headmistress' have 'HM' before their name.
What are some common abbreviations used here on HOS? OHW: Online Hogwarts World PM: Personal Message HM: Headmistress DH: Deputy Head HOH: Head of House DE: Death Eater Cbox: Chatbox AU: Alternative Universe HP: Harry Potter PB: Playby RP: Roleplay

Profile Management
What is a Display Name/How do I modify it? A display name is your character's first and last name. You can modify it by going to your profile via this link and hit > 'Modify Profile.' From there, you are directed to a page that should say > 'Account Information: Username, Password, Confirm Password, Email Address, and then Display Name. Change your display name to a first and last name to that of what you want your character's name to be. Do not use your real name.
I don't know what to name my character. Help? You can look up 'baby names' on Google.com, or name it after your favorite celebrity!
What is a signature? What about an Avatar/Icon? Your signature and avatar/icon are known as your graphic 'set' here on OHW. Your signature is a banner-like blend of pictures using your play-by, which is commonly known as a celeb/celebrity-look-a-like. (For more information on that, see the question located a few down.) Your avatar is basically the same thing, but it is much smaller and usually matches the signature.
What are the size restrictions on graphics? The maximum signature size is 600 pixels by 400 pixels, and the most your avatar is allowed to be is 150 x 200 pixels (anything smaller than those restrictions are allowed).
Where can I get graphics of my own? Well, if you are experienced with any photo editing program such as Photoshop or GIMP, you can make them yourself. However, for the less experienced members we also have a Graphic Request board, which can be found here. Before you can request anything though, please remember to claim your play-by.
A celeb-look-a-like?! What's that? The celeb/celebrity-look-a-like you choose will be who your character looks like. You can't claim someone that another person has claimed, unless you meet special circumstances (see the claim threads for more information on that). If you need help finding someone to use you can look at Hollow Art or Caution's Playby List.
Alright, I got my graphics. How do I add them in? Once you have your graphics, just go back and modify your profile (described above). Save the graphics you have and upload them to a place like Photobucket or Tinypic. For the signature section, copy the URL that looks like this: [ IMG ]http://host/image[/ IMG ] (without the spaces). For the avatar, just copy and paste the plain http://host/image URL and type in the width and height (which is usually 100 x 100 or 150 x 200) in the specified regions.

Sorting Ceremony
How do I get sorted into a house? On OHW, you are sorted based on your answers to a quiz. Any staff member that's online will sort you when they can, so please be patient. You can get sorted under the Sorting Hat.
How long does it take to be sorted? Sorting can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days.
It's been a week, and I still haven't been sorted? Just be patient. Do NOT start posting and PMing the staff about it. They will get to you when they can.
I was sorted, but I was put in my first year. I want to move up? Everyone is put into their first year. If you want to move up, go to the Sorting Hat and fill in an application for the year you desire. But we recommend staying a first year for a while to get the hang of things around OHW.

Socializing and Developing
I'm new here, and I'm sorted, but I don't know where to start. Feel free to head on over to the Plot Planning board, where you can introduce your character, and look for some role playing plot or relationship prospects. But don't forget! You can also reply to other people's threads in these boards!
Alright, so I've posted a thread, now what? Now you can start making new friends, and maybe reply to open threads. You can start your Character's Bio and plot with others!
I've done all that, and I still don't know what to do! The Cbox is a great way for you to get out and socialize on your own, as are the General Chat & Games boards. If none of those suit you, there's always the HP Discussion board.

Creatures, Abilities, and Horcruxes
How do I become a Veela/Werewolf/Animagus/Etc? You can become one by signing up for it. You need to meet the requirements, however. If you don't meet them, then you are going to have to wait until you do. It requires 200+ Post Count, so you won't be able to get it right away.
Wait, I can't be a Parselmouth?! This sucks! No. They are rare. Only 3 people were ever known to speak Parseltongue in the past thousand years, and you will not be the 4th.
I'm going to Roleplay as a creature without applying! You shouldn't do that. If you are caught, you will be banned from this website, and banned from ever joining again.
Can I say I have the Elder wand, Invisibilty Cloak and/or Sorcerer's/Resurrection stone? No, you can't! The Sorcerer's/Resurrection stone was destroyed years ago; the Invisibilty Cloak is no where to be found, and the Elder wand is in possession of one of the most powerful beings in the Wizarding World (ask around if you want to know who it is).

How to Play Quidditch
How do you play Quidditch here? Here at OHW, we have our own way of playing Quidditch. It is very fast paced, and not for the faint of heart. For more detailed information on how a game is conducted, please check out the OHW Quidditch Rules.
Alright, so I read the rules, how do I sign up? Once you're sorted, in your House Tower there will be Quidditch Lockers. In those will be Quidditch Sign Ups for your House, and you can apply there.

Misc. Questions
What is Karma? How do I get it? Karma is something that other people give you if you make them smile, they like you, etc. You can only give it once an hour, and if you repeatedly give it to someone each hour, we will make sure you're not giving it to another one of your accounts.
Where is the list of spells for students of my year? Character Necessities.
What is 'posting'? How can I post things? A post is an entry or reply to a 'thread' or 'topic' on an internet forum, such as OHW. You can post things by clicking on the name of a thread and scrolling down, to the bottom of the last post in said topic. There should be a little white colored box labeled 'Quick Reply:' where you can enter codes and text. By hitting the submit button, your post will be viewable by anyone that has the ability to see said topic.
Hey! This site is awesome! Can I borrow your boards/graphics/skin/etc.? No, that is plagiarism. If you do, and you're caught, there will be serious consequences, so just DON'T DO IT.
I'm not British, but the site is set in that region. What are some common Brit words? Well, for one, don't feel bad about asking in the Cbox. We have several members who are active that live in England, and love to lend a helping hand. Anyway, if you really must have some Brit words, try this document. --IF YOU STILL HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, DON'T HESITATE TO ASK A HEADMISTRESS OR THE ADMIN.--
